Stay Connected with God

Dear Family + Friends,

I want to begin this with a quote from Dr. Lee Warren, brain surgeon and author of Hope is the First Dose.

Since we lost our son Mitch, I’ve been on a long journey of trying to figure out what happens to people who get stuck in some place in their lives. This is because I was stuck for so long in grief and hopelessness from the trauma of Mitch’s death. I needed to heal, and I needed (as a good doctor) to try to find ways to help others heal too, as Lisa and I both realized that Luke 12:48 (“To whom much is given, much is required.”) applies to both the blessings AND the burdens of our lives. God brought us up out of the furnace of suffering through his mercy, so we felt obligated to shine a light behind us on the path for others as well.

I have a few people that don’t understand why I would want to be a sheriff’s chaplain - dealing with death - since I have gone through Lee’s death. For me, it’s a ministry that I feel called to. Yes, I know it is difficult - but it’s a blessing to be able to “shine the light” on others who are suffering the loss of a loved one.

Are you stuck in grief or hopelessness? It may not be a loss of life - but perhaps it’s the loss of a friendship, marriage, or job. Be alert. “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Though Satan would love us to be hopeless, sad, overwhelmed - remember 1 John 4:4, “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” Suit up with the armor of God. (Read Ephesians 6:10-18)

Finally, stay connected with God. Do this with daily Bible reading, reflection, and prayer. If you don’t have my journal, this is the PERFECT time to get it! It is elegant, simple to use, and will help you begin your day giving attention to HIM who loves you so much. Remember, they make amazing gifts as well! Buy early for Christmas!

I pray you have an amazing week!
